Juliet Ibrahim Breaks Silence On Sexual Assault

By Daniel Bampoe

Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Juliet Ibrahim has reignited public conversation on consent and intimate partner violence after openly recounting a traumatic chapter of her past relationship, in which she says she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a former partner.

Her revelations, first made during a 2024 interview on the WithChude YouTube channel, have resurfaced in recent days, drawing renewed attention across social and traditional media platforms.

Speaking candidly in the interview, Ibrahim described a pattern of abuse in which her refusal of sexual advances was ignored, and her autonomy repeatedly violated.

She explained that despite clearly expressing non-consent, the relationship escalated into situations where she felt physically overpowered and emotionally trapped, leaving her fearful and powerless.

Beyond the physical dimension of the abuse, Ibrahim also spoke about psychological intimidation and control, including a period in which she alleged she was confined in her partner’s home for several days.

According to her, the situation only ended after the intervention of her sister, Sonia, who helped her escape.

The experience, she said, left deep emotional scars and reshaped how she understands safety, trust, and vulnerability in relationships.

Central to her message was a strong rejection of cultural beliefs that minimise or excuse sexual violence within relationships and marriage. Ibrahim stressed that consent remains essential regardless of emotional ties, status, or marital bonds, stating clearly that forced intimacy—whether in dating relationships or marriage—constitutes rape.
