Sudan’s National Football Team, led by Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah, has qualified for the semifinals of the CHAN tournament after a dramatic quarterfinal win over Algeria.
The Falcons of Jediane won 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the game ended tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time and extra time.
Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed El Nour was the hero of the match, saving two penalty attempts to hand his team the stunning win.
El Nour’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Unbeaten Run
Sudan’s win over Algeria means they remain unbeaten in the tournament, despite dealing with a civil war in the country that forced the team to assemble only four days before the start of the competition.
The team’s determination and resilience have paid off, and they will now face Madagascar in the semifinals.
Semifinal Matchup
Sudan will take on Madagascar on Tuesday, August 26 at 14:30 GMT, while Morocco will face defending champions Senegal in the other semifinal on August 26 at 17:30 GMT.
The win over Algeria has boosted Sudan’s confidence, and they will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament.
