Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has issued a strong call for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging party members to put aside internal differences and rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as preparations intensify for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a funeral ceremony at Adoagyiri, Annoh-Dompreh said the NPP’s return to power would depend largely on its ability to unite its rank and file, strengthen its organisational structures and work collectively towards a common political objective.
He appealed to party members who may have taken different positions during the internal contests to now close ranks and support the leadership of Dr. Bawumia.
According to him, the NPP has already crossed some of the most important stages in rebuilding the party ahead of the next election, having elected its flagbearer and various party officers, with the remaining major task being the election of the national officers slated for October 3.
He said the completion of the internal electoral process should mark the beginning of a new phase of mobilisation rather than another period of internal competition.
Annoh-Dompreh stressed that unity, discipline and organisation would be critical if the NPP is to successfully challenge the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028. He therefore called on all members, supporters and sympathisers of the party to come on board and contribute to the collective effort to rebuild the party from the grassroots.
Turning his attention to the government, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP accused the NDC of failing to live up to the expectations it created while in opposition. He argued that the government’s performance would ultimately be judged against the promises made to Ghanaians before the 2024 general elections.
Annoh-Dompreh said the NPP must use the period leading to 2028 to present what he described as a credible alternative to Ghanaians, while communicating the party’s policies and vision to voters. He maintained that Ghanaians would have the opportunity in 2028 to assess the government’s record and make their decision at the ballot box.
He further predicted that the electorate would reject the NDC at the next election, saying Ghanaians would “show them the red card” in 2028 if they conclude that the government has failed to fulfil its commitments.
The call from Annoh-Dompreh echoes an earlier message from Dr. Bawumia that the NPP cannot assume victory in 2028. After his election as flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia urged members to heal divisions arising from the presidential contest and work together towards a common objective.
He subsequently cautioned that the road to 2028 would require discipline, sacrifice, humility and hard work, stressing that victory would have to be earned constituency by constituency and household by household.
He urged party members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, strengthen the party’s organisational structures and remain focused on the larger objective of returning the NPP to government.
He also appealed to Ghanaians who remain disappointed with the current administration to keep faith with the NPP, arguing that the party would present policies and programmes aimed at addressing the country’s economic and developmental challenges.
The Minority Chief Whip said the NPP’s immediate task was not merely to campaign, but to rebuild, reorganise and reconnect with the grassroots, insisting that a united party would be better positioned to convince voters and reclaim political power in 2028.
