MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL) has opened applications for the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide innovation programme designed to identify, develop and accelerate the next generation of Ghanaian fintech innovators, with selected participants eligible for cash awards of up to GH¢100,000.

The initiative, launched on August 12, 2026, at the Accra Marriott Hotel, is being implemented in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other stakeholders across the financial technology ecosystem.

The programme is targeted at students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators with ideas capable of addressing everyday financial challenges, expanding access to digital financial services and contributing to the development of Ghana’s digital economy.

Under the theme “Build with MoMo” and the tagline “Build the Next Wave of Fintech,” the programme seeks to move promising ideas beyond the conceptual stage by connecting innovators with regulators, financial institutions, technology companies, academia, investors and innovation hubs.

4 areas targeted

The MoMo Fintech Lab is structured around four major innovation tracks: Everyday Payments and Financial Access; Business and Merchant Growth Tools; Trust, Security and Digital Identity; and Future Finance and Connected Ecosystems.

The organisers say the selected innovators will receive industry guidance and access to networks and resources to help transform their ideas into practical, scalable and commercially viable solutions.

Applications are open to individuals as well as teams and are free of charge. The deadline for submission is September 30, 2026.

Applicants can apply directly through the MoMo App by logging in with their MoMo number and PIN or using biometrics, selecting the MoMo Fintech Lab banner on the home page, completing the application form and submitting details of their proposed solution under the relevant innovation track.

GH¢100,000 prize and support package

The programme will select 12 finalists, who will receive a comprehensive prize and development package.

Apart from cash awards of up to GH¢100,000, the package includes digital devices, a bootcamp, hackathon participation, mentorship, incubation support, industry exposure and an opportunity to participate in a National Demo Day.

At the Demo Day, finalists will pitch their solutions before industry stakeholders, providing them with an opportunity to attract further partnerships, investment and commercial opportunities.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, Shaibu Haruna, said the initiative was intended to strengthen Ghana’s fintech talent pipeline while creating an avenue for innovators to develop solutions with direct relevance to the country’s financial and economic needs.

The programme has also received support from the financial sector, with the Bank of Ghana emphasizing the importance of responsible innovation, collaboration and regulatory engagement in building a trusted and inclusive digital financial ecosystem.

Government challenges innovators

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, challenged Ghanaian innovators to take advantage of the programme to develop homegrown financial technology capable of competing beyond Ghana.

The Minister said Ghana possesses the talent, creativity and ideas required to build its own digital future and should reduce dependence on technology solutions developed outside the country.
