Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, has commemorated the 62nd birthday of late Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, with a cash donation to support children undergoing treatment at the Child Health Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

The gesture was made in honour of Daddy Lumba on September 29, the date the celebrated musician would have turned 62.

Odo Broni and her team initially planned to support children born on the same day as the late musician as part of the birthday commemoration. However, upon arriving at the Child Health Department, they encountered several children battling serious illnesses and families facing financial difficulties in meeting the cost of treatment.

The team subsequently broadened the scope of the initiative to provide immediate financial assistance to children who were considered to be in urgent need of support.

Cash donations were distributed in envelopes to selected patients at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Child Health Daycare Oncology Unit. The amounts given to individual beneficiaries varied depending on their circumstances and needs.

According to Odo Broni, the total amount donated was approximately GH¢63,000.

As part of the visit, she also went to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where she interacted with children receiving critical medical care.

The donation was received on behalf of the Child Health Department by its Administrator, Benjamin Nkansah, and Chief Nursing Officer Evelyn Kumah.

The Child Health Department expressed appreciation to Odo Broni for the gesture, particularly for choosing to commemorate Daddy Lumba’s birthday by supporting children and families experiencing difficult moments during their healthcare journey.

The initiative provided a humanitarian dimension to the remembrance of Daddy Lumba, whose music and influence continue to resonate with generations of Ghanaians.
