Three suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a fierce exchange of gunfire with police officers at the Kpone Industrial Area in the Tema Region.
The shootout occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 21, 2025, after the Tema Regional Police Command received a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery at a warehouse.
According to an official statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, the armed gang—believed to number about ten—had forcibly broken into the warehouse located within the Tema Industrial enclave.
A patrol team from the Kpone District Command was swiftly dispatched to the scene and encountered the heavily armed assailants.
The confrontation quickly escalated into a shootout. During the gun battle, three of the suspects were fatally shot.
The remaining robbers, some suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to escape under the cover of darkness and are currently on the run.
Items retrieved at the crime scene include a Bruni model foreign pistol, a locally manufactured double-barrelled pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, and eleven live BB rounds.
The deceased individuals have been taken to the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra for identification, autopsy, and preservation as police investigators work to piece together the full extent of the criminal operation.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the rest of the gang members, who are considered armed and dangerous.
The Tema Regional Police Command has commended the Kpone patrol team for their swift and decisive action, which prevented what could have been a more devastating incident.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals—particularly those with unexplained injuries—to the nearest police station to aid the ongoing investigation.
