Multiple award-winning dancehall artiste Samini has expressed his admiration for Ghana’s current leadership direction under President John Mahama, particularly highlighting the judiciary’s bold actions in holding public officials accountable.
In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s “PrimeTime with George Quaye,” Samini shared his thoughts on governance and justice, stating that he feels proud to be a Ghanaian given the current developments.
Samini’s Perspective On Accountability
Samini emphasized the importance of accountability in governance, noting that he supports the judiciary’s efforts to bring individuals who engage in dubious activities to justice.
“I like the fact that people are being brought to book and justice is being served — or it seems like justice is going to be served,” he said.
The musician stressed that his appreciation for the current administration’s efforts stems from principle rather than personality, adding that public officials should serve Ghana and prioritize the public purse ¹.
President Mahama’s Initiatives
Since taking office, President Mahama has initiated several key actions, including:
– Energy Sector Meeting: Convening an emergency meeting with energy sector stakeholders to address ongoing challenges and potential fuel shortages for power generation.
– Ministerial Nominations: Announcing his first set of ministerial nominees and restructuring ministries to promote efficiency.
– Investigation into Election-Related Deaths: Directing the Inspector General of Police to investigate deaths that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
– Halting State Land Sales: Ordering a halt on all ongoing leases and sales of state and public lands to protect state resources.
Samini’s Growing Willingness To Speak Out
As a socially conscious artiste, Samini has rarely made pointed political statements on air.
However, his recent remarks signal a growing willingness to speak out on governance, integrity, and justice issues that transcend political affiliations.
While praising President Mahama and the judiciary, Samini also left the door open for supporting other political movements, provided they demonstrate a commitment to good governance and leadership.
“If the New Force political party comes out with policies that make me believe they stand a chance of giving us the best when it comes to governance and leadership, I’ll definitely go for that,” he said.
