Dreamz Ladies midfielder Sarah Nyarko has been entrusted with the captaincy of Ghana’s Black Princesses as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nyarko’s appointment comes after an influential role in Ghana’s qualification campaign, where she featured in all of the team’s qualifying matches. Her consistency and experience in midfield have now earned her the responsibility of leading the Black Princesses on the biggest stage of women’s youth football.
She will be supported by Diana Amoako, who has been named first vice-captain, while Army Ladies midfielder Esther Asamoah will serve as the second vice-captain. The leadership trio will be tasked with providing direction both on and off the pitch as Ghana targets a historic campaign.
The tournament represents another significant chapter for the Black Princesses, who are set to make their eighth consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Despite their remarkable consistency in qualifying for the competition, Ghana are yet to progress beyond the group stage.
That record will be firmly in the minds of head coach Charles Sampson and his technical team as they prepare the squad for what promises to be a demanding group campaign.
Ghana will open their tournament against Ecuador on September 6, 2026, before taking on Korea Republic and France in their remaining Group fixtures.
The Black Princesses will therefore need to negotiate a challenging group if they are to finally break the long-standing barrier that has prevented them from reaching the knockout stages.
