A devastating accident occurred on Monday near Ause Junction on the Akosombo to Tema Highway in the Eastern Region, claiming the lives of six passengers, including three students.
The victims were traveling from Madina to Ho in a Toyota Hiace van with registration number GS 6374-22 when the crash occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, a private vehicle occupied by old students of Mawuli Senior High School returning to Accra overtook some vehicles, but in the process, one of its tires burst, causing it to collide with the passenger vehicle.
Four of the victims died on the spot, while two others were pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Hospital in Agormanya.
Several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding and poor visibility may have contributed to the accident.
This stretch of highway has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent months, raising concerns about road safety in the area.
Authorities have cautioned motorists to exercise extreme care when driving on the busy route connecting the Eastern Region to Accra.
