The Ghana Tanker Drivers Union has issued the government a September 2, 2026 deadline to address the worsening condition of roads around Kpone and the Tema Harbour, warning that failure to act could trigger a withdrawal of services.
National Chairman of the union, George Nyaunu, said the deteriorating roads had created serious operational challenges for tanker drivers and required urgent government intervention.
The affected routes are particularly important to Ghana’s petroleum distribution network, as they connect the Tema Harbour and other coastal petroleum facilities to destinations across the country.
Tanker drivers rely heavily on these roads to transport petroleum products from depots to Oil Marketing Companies and other locations.
Nyaunu said the union had decided to give the government until September 2 to respond to their concerns. He warned that if meaningful action was not taken by the deadline, tanker operators could withdraw their services.
The threat comes amid growing concerns about the state of roads within the Tema-Kpone industrial and port corridor, which experiences heavy traffic from tankers and other heavy-duty vehicles.
