In a disturbing incident that unfolded in the heart of Accra in the evening of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a commercial minibus, commonly referred to as a trotro, rammed into the fence wall of the private residence of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Nima.
The accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., left three people injured, raising concerns about public safety and security around the former leader’s home.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the green trotro appeared to have suffered a brake failure while navigating the busy stretch near the Nima Police Station.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and slammed into the cemented perimeter wall enclosing the former president’s residence.
The impact left part of the wall badly damaged.
“The mate was seriously hurt—he was coughing up blood before they rushed him to the hospital,” said an eyewitness who watched the scene unfold in shock.
Two other passengers aboard the vehicle were also injured and have since been admitted to a nearby health facility for treatment.
The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
The residence, which became the official private abode of President Akufo-Addo after leaving office in January 2025, is strategically located near a high-traffic intersection in Nima.
The area serves as a critical transit route for vehicles traveling between Nima, Accra Central, Osu, and Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
