A cloud of uncertainty has gripped Suhum Municipality in the Eastern Region following the sudden and tragic deaths of two security guards (names yet to be identified) at the Omenako Mortuary in the early hours of Friday, May 1, 2026.

According to initial reports, the first victim, who was on night duty, allegedly collapsed in the early morning while at post. He was said to have been unwell before the incident and had reportedly been advised to seek medical attention.

However, he is believed to have died shortly after, with accounts indicating he may have passed either at the facility or shortly after being attended to.

In a troubling twist, his colleague—who had been contacted to report for the morning shift to replace him also met a similar fate upon arrival at the mortuary premises.

Sources indicate that the second guard, upon getting to the facility, went to the washroom to freshen up.

Moments later, he was found unresponsive with his face positioned toward the sink, raising further concern about the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

The mortuary, located before the Omenako community along the Accra–Kumasi Highway, serves parts of the Suhum Municipality and surrounding areas.

While such facilities typically operate under routine security arrangements, this unusual double fatality has sparked fear and speculation among residents and workers in the area.

Background checks suggest that there had been no widely reported prior incidents of this nature at the facility, making the occurrence particularly alarming.

The fact that both individuals died within a short time frame and under related circumstances has deepened suspicions and prompted calls for a thorough investigation.

The matter has since been reported to the Ghana Police Service, with preliminary investigations currently underway to establish the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, the Police as gathered are expected to conduct medical examinations and gather further evidence to determine whether the deaths were due to natural causes, environmental factors, or any other underlying issues.
