Veteran Kumawood actress Mama Kali has made a rare public appearance, candidly revealing that despite spending more than two decades entertaining Ghanaians, she has been unable to achieve the financial stability many associate with a successful acting career.
The respected actress, who became a household name through numerous Kumawood productions, disclosed that she still lives in her late father’s house and does not own a personal vehicle, highlighting what she described as the difficult realities facing many veteran actors in Ghana’s film industry.
Speaking in an interview with Agnesboat Multimedia, Mama Kali reflected on her journey in the entertainment industry, admitting that years of acting have not translated into significant personal wealth or property ownership.
According to her, she has never been able to build or purchase her own house and continues to reside in her father’s home, despite dedicating a substantial part of her life to the movie industry.
The actress also revealed that she does not own a car, adding humorously that she cannot even afford a Pragia, the popular three-wheeled commercial vehicle that has become a common means of transportation in many parts of Ghana.
Although she delivered the remarks with laughter, her comments painted a sobering picture of the financial hardships experienced by some pioneers of Ghana’s movie industry after years of entertaining audiences.
Mama Kali’s interview quickly gained traction on social media, where many Ghanaians expressed sympathy and concern over the welfare of veteran actors whose contributions helped shape the country’s flourishing film industry.
