Vice President In Town, Set To Operate From Osu Castle Safe House

Despite weeks of speculation surrounding her health and whereabouts, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has quietly returned to the country and is currently operating from a secure location near the Osu Castle, The Daily Gist has learned.

Sources within the Presidency confirmed late Thursday evening that the Vice President is back in Ghana after seeking advanced medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

While official communication has been mum on her return, insiders disclosed that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is residing in a “safe house” designated to offer her privacy and security during her recuperation period.

Earlier in the day, President John Dramani Mahama offered an official update on her condition during the launch of a nationwide initiative to distribute sanitary pads to over two million girls.

President John Mahama assured the public that the Vice President is “very well” and recuperating.

However, he stopped short of confirming her return to the country, stating only that she was resting and would soon resume her duties.

The Vice President, who turned 72 this year, reportedly suffered a heart-related medical emergency shortly after attending a public iftar with Muslim women in Accra on Friday, March 28.

She was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day.

A statement released by the Office of the President on March 30 confirmed her stable condition, though further medical advice prompted her to travel abroad for continued care.

According to Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the decision for her to travel was taken based on expert medical recommendations.

“The Vice President will be seeking further medical care abroad, based on expert medical opinion,” his statement read earlier this month.

After nearly three weeks under specialist care in London, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is now said to be in a stable condition and recovering steadily.

Her decision to operate from a secure location in Osu is reportedly aimed at minimizing public pressure and avoiding any strenuous duties while she regains full strength.

Sources within Jubilee House noted that the location, near the historic Osu Castle, has been prepared to allow her to work in a limited capacity while maintaining her privacy.

“Her doctors have recommended partial leave to allow her to rest while attending to essential duties remotely,” one source explained.

“This arrangement is temporary and intended to ensure her full recovery without disruptions.”

While her exact movements remain confidential, it is understood that enhanced security protocols have been put in place.

She is expected to gradually ease back into official responsibilities from the safe house, away from public appearances for now.
