8 Die In Fatal Bus Crash On Elubo–Takoradi Highway

Eight people have died following a fatal collision involving two passenger buses at Azuletti, near Samenye, along the Elubo–Takoradi N1 Highway in the Western Region.

The accident occurred over the weekend when an Ivorian passenger bus travelling towards Benin crashed into the rear of a parked Burkinabè passenger bus, which had reportedly obstructed one lane of the highway.

The Ivorian bus, with registration number AB-415-AN, collided with the stationary vehicle bearing registration number KJA-5604J.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stationed at Elubo responded to the distress call and rescued 21 passengers trapped in the aftermath of the collision.

Seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while an eighth person later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

The injured passengers were transported to hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.

Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service suggest that speeding may have contributed to the accident.
