Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the New Patriotic Party (NPP), highlighting plans to strengthen party structures, develop young political leaders and improve policy formulation following a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Dr. Mark Speich.
The meeting took place at the KAS Ghana office in Accra, where the two discussed Ghana’s political and economic future, as well as the ongoing reorganisation of the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia said the party had spent the past two years working to strengthen its structures and position itself to respond more effectively to the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians.
He also highlighted two initiatives central to his vision for the party: the Patriotic Institute and the NPP Policy Unit.
According to him, the Patriotic Institute is intended to help nurture the next generation of political leaders and create opportunities for young people to contribute to public service. The NPP Policy Unit, meanwhile, is expected to support the development of policies grounded in evidence, financial feasibility and practical implementation.
Dr. Bawumia said the broader objective was to build a stronger, more inclusive and ideas-driven NPP, with a greater focus on policy development and sustainable national progress.
He expressed appreciation to KAS for its longstanding partnership and support, indicating his interest in deepening cooperation between the two institutions in the coming months.
The engagement comes as the NPP continues its post-election reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general election. The party faces the task of reviewing its structures, reconnecting with voters and refining its policy direction ahead of future elections.
