In a heartwarming display of philanthropy, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana, used his birthday to pay the medical bills of dozens of children receiving treatment at the Department of Child Health of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The initiative, which saw more than GHS 80,000 donated, covered outstanding hospital bills and the procurement of essential medicines for the young patients.
Leading the delegation, Akosua Manu, Special Aide to Dr. Bawumia, said the gesture reflects the former Vice President’s deep compassion for children, particularly those grappling with health challenges.
“The former Vice President believes in extending support to the most vulnerable in our society. This contribution is meant to alleviate some of the burdens on these families and ensure that their children receive timely medical attention,” Ms. Manu explained.
Representatives from the hospital wards received the funds on behalf of the beneficiaries and lauded Dr. Bawumia for his timely intervention. Hospital officials described the gesture as “a beacon of hope” for families struggling with mounting medical expenses.
This birthday act adds to Dr. Bawumia’s record of social engagements and philanthropic efforts, reinforcing his commitment to supporting education, health, and welfare initiatives across the country.
