Osun State Appoints Davido To Lead Sports Trust Fund

The Osun State Government in Nigeria has announced the appointment of internationally acclaimed Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, in what authorities describe as a strategic move to rejuvenate the state’s sports infrastructure and youth engagement programmes.

Speaking during the official unveiling in Osogbo, the State capital, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi said the decision to appoint Davido was driven by his global influence, passion for youth empowerment, and strong ties to Osun State, where he hails from.

Adewusi noted that the administration expects Davido’s leadership to attract substantial private-sector investments and international partnerships aimed at transforming Osun into a vibrant hub for sports development.

The appointment comes amid ongoing efforts by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to reposition the sports sector as a key driver of social and economic growth.

One of the flagship projects under this initiative is the rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which has been under renovation for several years but stalled due to funding constraints.

With Davido now at the helm of the Sports Trust Fund, the government hopes to mobilize resources beyond public financing.

The Fund’s core mandate will include raising capital for infrastructure, supporting grassroots sports programmes, and promoting young athletic talent across the state.

In addition to the Trust Fund, the government also announced plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for policy development, coordination, and administration of sports activities.

The Commission, once operational, will ensure transparency, accountability, and continuity in sports management.
