Social media yesterday had interesting yet disturbing entries which expectedly attracted a lot of reactions.
Based on the University Of Ghana sexual harassment on helpless girls by some lecturers the subject provided food for the thought of Ghanaians who should be concerned about the safety of their daughters in the hands of bad teachers in the educational system.
The infamous…have you ever been kissed violently expose, was reignited by the chats. The internet has this entry when “violent kisses” is typed “it is a controversial label associated with Professor Ransford Gyampo following the 2019 “Sex for Grades” scandal exposed by the BBC. It is not the title of a drama or play but a derogatory tag that has been widely circulated on social media platforms like Facebook.”
For parents, women and girls the post is a wakeup call to hirers of labour especially governments to be mindful about the records of those they entrust with management of public offices.
One of the entries was a question… “When we keep thinking that men who are competent should be allowed to be in places of power in spite of their danger to women and girls, we must ask ourselves why our definition of competence does not include the safety of women and girls around those men.”
The expose by a certain lady that she was sexually harassed by a man who now holds a public office…reward for propaganda campaign against the NPP made worrying reading.
We can imagine how the lady and alleged victims of the man’s violent kisses feel when they spot the sexual predator holding his position.
Was his offence such a negligible social or criminal breach as to be ignored by the President when he offered him that appointment?
Competence should include the integrity of those being considered because under a fair and equal opportunities ambience such as ours the safety of girls should be paramount.
A situation where violent kisses are administered on poor and helpless girls should not be tolerated and encouraged by all means. And what better way to do this than to make important appointments no-go areas for serial sexual predators.
Information reaching us indicates that the said man is allegedly still at the bad habit….satisfying his libido at will on vulnerable ladies who want to keep their jobs.
It breaks our hearts when educated men some of them with daughters and sisters would descend into such social low and use their positions to demand sexual favours from their female subordinates at workplaces.
The said man should not have been offered the appointment he is holding today but for the President’s disregard for the high moral standards of appointees.
Were it possible for the new victims who have been kissed violently to talk about their experiences we can bet the list will be longer than the University of Ghana entries.
