The woman at the centre of a disturbing viral video showing a naked assault has finally broken her silence, detailing the harrowing events that led to the brutal attack.
Harriet Amuzu, 32, says her estranged husband, John Odartey Lamptey, assaulted her after she refused his sexual demands, an ordeal she described as the most traumatic moment of her life.
A Broken Marriage
Harriet revealed that her marriage had collapsed months before the incident. She had relocated to her hometown after years of marital challenges, leaving their children with her husband.
According to her, the separation was clear and permanent, with no intention of reuniting.
But on Saturday, November 15, her estranged husband called, claiming their youngest child was critically ill.
Concerned, Harriet abandoned a funeral she was attending in her village and travelled back to Ofankor, arriving around 9 p.m. after hours on the road. To her surprise, she found all the children healthy and playing.
She confronted Lamptey, who later admitted he had lied about the child’s condition just to lure her back home.
Sex Demand Sparks Heated Confrontation
Harriet explained that she opted to spend the night after the long journey, intending to return to the village the following morning.
However, she said the atmosphere became toxic when Lamptey demanded to have sex with her.
She said she refused, reminding him they had been separated for five months and that she had not returned to rekindle any form of marital intimacy. Her refusal, she believes, ignited her husband’s anger and triggered the sequence of events that followed. Harriet recounted that the next morning, Lamptey prevented her from approaching the children.
He reportedly confessed again that he had deceived her and then threatened to kill her.
He called one of their children, Daniel, to take the others out of the room and locked the door behind them.
What happened next became the chilling scene that millions would later watch online.
Inside the locked room, Lamptey allegedly stripped her naked, removing her underwear and waist beads while claiming he owned everything she wore.
Harriet says he picked up a stick and beat her mercilessly, stepped on her, and at one point fetched a knife, threatening to cut off her hand.
Her cries for help were barely answered until a neighbour identified as Oketeku intervened.
After pleading, Lamptey opened the door, allowing Oketeku to snatch the knife. But the breakthrough was short-lived; Lamptey drove him out and continued the assault. Harriet said at one point he smeared pepper between her thighs and private parts, intensifying her pain.
Court Remands Husband And Two Others
Following public outrage over the video, police arrested Lamptey, who is now facing charges of Physical Assault under Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act (Act 732).
Two others—Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey—were also arrested for allegedly threatening a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video.
The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Magistrate Court remanded all three suspects into custody.
They are scheduled to reappear on December 3, 2025, as investigations continue.
Police Searching for the Victim
In a worrying twist, the Ghana Police Service says Harriet has not been located since the video went public.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a search for her and is appealing to the public for credible information on her whereabouts.
Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo assured the public that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
