Kumasi Asante Kotoko have reinforced their squad with the signing of highly-rated young forward Dogo Yakubu, underlining the club’s renewed commitment to youth development as they prepare for the second half of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The Kumasi-based giants confirmed on Monday, January 12, 2026, that the 21-year-old striker has joined the club on a three-and-a-half-year contract following the successful completion of his medical examination.
Dogo arrives from MidCity Football Academy, a side noted in recent years for producing promising talents for the domestic game.
Kotoko’s latest acquisition comes against the backdrop of a season in which the Porcupine Warriors, reigning FA Cup holders, are seeking to strengthen their attacking options as they push for consistency in both league and cup competitions.
Club sources indicate that the decision to bring in Dogo was influenced not only by immediate needs but also by a broader long-term strategy aimed at building a competitive squad around young, hungry players with growth potential.
Known for his pace, intelligent movement and eye for goal, Dogo has attracted attention at academy level, earning a reputation as a forward capable of stretching defences and capitalising on scoring opportunities.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko believe those attributes will add a new dimension to their frontline as the season progresses.
Speaking after completing his move, the young striker expressed confidence in his ability to succeed at the club, describing the transfer as a defining moment in his early career.
He said joining Kotoko represents a major opportunity to prove himself at the highest level of domestic football, adding that he is determined to work hard, learn quickly and contribute goals to help the team achieve its objectives.
Head coach Karim Zito has also publicly backed the signing, stressing that Dogo fits perfectly into the club’s long-term vision.
According to Zito, Kotoko are deliberately investing in young players who possess modern attacking qualities, with the aim of giving them the right environment to develop into key figures for the club over time.
Dogo is expected to be integrated quickly into the first-team setup and could make his competitive debut as early as Sunday, January 18, when Kotoko face GoldStars in their next fixture.
His arrival adds another chapter to Kotoko’s ongoing rebuilding process, as the club looks to blend experience with youth in its quest for sustained success on the domestic front.
