Court Freezes PSG’s Accounts Over Kylian Mbappe €55m Case

French Soccer captain Kylian Mbappe has moved a step further in his ongoing dispute with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), over unpaid wages and bonuses.

The Judicial Court of Paris has approved the protective freezing of PSG’s accounts pending the outcome of the legal proceedings, potentially paving the way for Mbappe to recover €55 million ($61.25 million) in disputed payments.

Background

Mbappe’s legal team claims that PSG owes him €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses, sparking a heated debate between the player and his former club.
The dispute began when Mbappe announced his decision to leave PSG and join Real Madrid in June 2024 after seven successful seasons with the French club.
According to Delphine Verheyden, one of Mbappe’s lawyers, “Kylian Mbappe is determined to enforce his rights, not just for himself but for all the other players who believe they have been wronged by their clubs.”

Mbappe’s complaint is part of a broader effort led by the French players’ union (UNFP), which has previously filed cases arguing that some players are being unfairly sidelined by their clubs.

PSG’s Response

A PSG official expressed confidence in the club’s position, stating that they have “no problem” contesting the case in court and predicting that “Mbappe is not going to win.”

However, with the Judicial Court of Paris approving the freezing of PSG’s accounts, Mbappe’s legal team seems optimistic about the outcome.

Next Steps

The case is scheduled for a hearing on May 26, where the court will likely determine the fate of the frozen funds. Mbappe also plans to escalate the matter to the labour court, further complicating the dispute.
Despite the ongoing dispute, Mbappe has been in excellent form with Real Madrid, scoring 22 goals in La Liga and 7 in the Champions League so far this season.
His impressive performance has solidified his position as one of the top players in the world, and his determination to enforce his rights may set a precedent for other players in similar situations
