Annoh-Dompreh, Protozoa Deliver Big Wins For Bawumia In Eastern Region

By Daniel Bampoe

The recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries saw a remarkable performance from party stalwarts in the Eastern Region, as Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Frank Asiedu Bekoe, aka Protozoa, MP for Suhum, emerged as key architects of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decisive victories in their respective constituencies.

The Minority Chief Whip, Annoh-Dompreh, widely recognized as a vocal Bawumia ambassador, successfully mobilized delegates in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, securing 707 votes for Bawumia—a commanding 74.74% of the total votes cast.

The effort marked a significant turnaround from 2023, when Annoh-Dompreh’s heavy involvement in primaries nearly put his parliamentary seat at risk during the 2024 general elections.

Analysts note that the strategic grassroots outreach, coupled with a last-minute campaign visit by Hajia Samira Bawumia, the flagbearer’s wife, contributed to this resounding success.

In Suhum, considered a stronghold for Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Protozoa and Bawumia’s Campaign Manager, Frederick Opare-Ansah, orchestrated a successful campaign that saw Bawumia secure 438 votes, outperforming Bryan Acheampong’s 119 votes.

Despite Bryan Acheampong’s deep roots in the constituency, the duo’s coordinated effort, leveraging local networks and party loyalty, proved decisive.

Protozoa’s strong performance underscored his rising influence within the NPP.

Strategic Significance For 2028

Political analysts highlight that Annoh-Dompreh and Protozoa’s efforts were instrumental in consolidating Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s overall victory, ensuring that even strongholds of rivals like Bryan Acheampong and Kennedy Agyapong were contested successfully.

In Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Suhum alone, the votes secured represented key margins that contributed significantly to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s national total of 110,643 votes (56.48%).

Party observers also note that the coordinated approach demonstrates a broader strategy of leveraging influential MPs as vote mobilizers, a tactic that may prove critical in the upcoming 2028 general elections.

The NPP now eyes consolidating these gains nationwide, with emphasis on maintaining unity and discipline, while preparing to mount a formidable campaign against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)..

Party insiders attribute these victories to meticulous delegate engagement, strategic constituency visits, and the appeal of Bawumia’s national vision.
