Ghana has strengthened its presence on the continental stage following the election of Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the 2nd Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), a key legislative organ of the African Union.
The election, held during an ongoing session of the Parliament, saw the Klottey Korle MP secure a decisive victory with 131 votes against 51, reflecting strong confidence from lawmakers drawn from across Africa’s 55 member states.

The Pan-African Parliament, established as part of the African Union’s governance framework, plays a critical role in promoting democratic values, human rights, and continental integration.
Over the years, Ghana has maintained a visible presence within the institution, contributing to policy discussions and legislative efforts aimed at harmonizing laws across the continent.
The MP, Agyeman-Rawlings’ election is therefore seen as a continuation of the active engagement and influence within the continental body.

Her elevation to the bureau’s third-highest office comes at a time when there is increasing advocacy for greater inclusion of women and young leaders in continental governance structures.
Throughout her parliamentary career, Agyeman-Rawlings has been noted for her work in areas such as health equity, youth empowerment, and the strengthening of democratic institutions, issues that resonate strongly with the broader objectives of the Pan-African Parliament.
The outcome of the vote, widely described as a landslide, signals a broad-based endorsement of her leadership qualities and vision for the institution.
Following the announcement, members of the Parliament across political and regional blocs were seen congratulating her, underscoring a sense of unity and shared expectation for her tenure.
