Residents of Jema in the Bono East Region have been left shocked after a suspected jealous ex-boyfriend allegedly set fire to a house belonging to his former girlfriend’s new partner following a relationship dispute.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, reportedly destroyed several household properties, although the occupants managed to escape unharmed.

According to accounts from the victims, the suspect, who is currently on the run, had earlier issued threats to the new boyfriend, identified only as Kojo, warning him to stay away from the woman over their relationship.

The woman at the centre of the dispute reportedly travelled to Jema after learning about the threats in an attempt to resolve tensions between the two men and prevent any possible confrontation.

However, the situation allegedly escalated dramatically while she and Kojo were asleep inside the house.

The suspect is said to have secretly poured petrol around the building before setting it ablaze and fleeing the scene.

The victims explained that they suddenly detected a strong smell of petrol moments before flames began spreading through parts of the house. Realising the danger, they quickly escaped from the building before the fire intensified.

Although no casualties were recorded, several personal belongings and properties were destroyed in the fire outbreak.

Speaking to the media, the two victims accused the suspect of carrying out the attack out of jealousy and anger over the woman’s new relationship.

The incident has since heightened fear among residents in the area, with many calling for swift police intervention to prevent further violence linked to relationship disputes.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but investigations are expected to commence as authorities work to track down the suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged arson attack.
