The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have set up a five-member Search Committee to recruit a new head coach for the Black Stars.
The decision was taken at a meeting between the leadership of the GFA and the Ministry in Accra on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe will chair the committee.
He will be supported by Anthony Baffoe, General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana and former Ghana international; Agbesi Dzakpasu, legal practitioner and football administrator; Stephen Appiah, former Black Stars captain; and Faisal Chibsah, high-performance specialist.
Per the terms of reference, the committee is tasked with identifying, evaluating and recommending a suitable candidate for the vacant coaching role. It will submit its report to the Ghana Football Association after completing its work.
The position became vacant on Thursday, October 1, after Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz resigned following the September international window.
Queiroz and the GFA mutually agreed to end their working relationship after Ghana lost its opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers – 2-0 away to Cote d’Ivoire and 4-2 at home to Gambia.
The GFA and the Sports Ministry say the recruitment process will be transparent and merit-based.
The new coach will take over a Black Stars team bottom of the group with no points from two games and with a crucial double-header against Somalia coming up in November.
