NPP Makes Fresh Appointments, Names Deputies

By Daniel Bampoe

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a fresh round of appointments across key party directorates and administrative positions, naming deputies and new directors as part of efforts to strengthen its organisational structure following the party’s recent national executive election.

The appointments, announced on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, affect several areas of the party’s operations, including elections, administration, research, information technology, finance, legal affairs, communications, youth mobilisation, women’s affairs and relations with sister parties.

One of the major changes is the appointment of Dr Augustine Blay as the party’s new Director of Elections, replacing Evans Nimako.

Dr Blay previously served as Executive Secretary to former Vice-President and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. He also headed the digital campaign team for Dr Bawumia’s 2024 presidential campaign.

His appointment places him in charge of an important party directorate as the NPP prepares to reorganise its structures and plan for future electoral contests, including the 2028 general election.

The latest appointments also introduce additional personnel into the party’s leadership and operational structures, with new deputy officers expected to support their respective national executives in carrying out party responsibilities.

Under the appointments, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Charles Bintim and Kwasi Amayaw Cheremeh have been named Vice-Chairpersons. Haruna Mohammed and Antoinette Tsibu-Darko have been appointed Deputy General Secretaries, while Prince Gumah and Dope Yao Yevoo will serve as Deputy Organisers.

The party has also named Dr Ayaaba Ibrahim Bawumia and Priscila Akorno as Deputy Youth Organisers. Ama Sey and Felicia Tetteh have been appointed Deputy Women’s Organisers, while Awudu Issaka will serve as Deputy NASARA Coordinator.

The appointments extend to several technical and administrative directorates. Professor Samuel Boadu Kusi has been appointed Director of Research, Prince Sefah will head Information Technology, and Ebenezer Nartey has been named Director of Protocol.

William Yamoah has been appointed Director of Administration, while Gyasi Boako will serve as Director of Finance. Dr Agyapong Darmoe has been named Director of the Patriotic Institute, Emmanuel Attafuah Danso will oversee Sister Party Relations, and Joe Louis has been appointed Director of Special Duties.

In the legal department, Gary Nimako has been maintained as Director of Legal Affairs, with Enoch Afoakwa and Mujeeb Kele named as his deputies.

The communications directorate has also received additional appointments, with 11 people named Deputy Communications Officers. They are Mayor Carlos, Gordon Asare Bediako, Kwasi Botchwey, Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, Issah Mohammed, Ellen Darko, Kwaku Duah, Goodfellow Offei, Abdul Ganiu, Awal Mohammed and Krobea Kwabena Asante.

The expanded communications team is expected to support the party’s information and public engagement activities, although the announcement did not specify the individual portfolios or responsibilities assigned to each deputy.

The appointments come in the wake of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, where delegates elected new national officers to lead the party into its next phase.

At the conference, John Boadu was elected National Chairman, while Justin Frimpong Kodua retained his position as General Secretary. Other officers were also elected to lead the party’s national structures as it begins preparations for the 2028 elections.

The party’s post-conference period has been marked by discussions about organisational renewal, internal cohesion and the need to strengthen its grassroots structures following its defeat in the 2024 general election.

Dr Bawumia, who won the NPP’s presidential primary in January 2026, remains the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 election. The new appointments are therefore taking place as the party works to align its administrative, research, electoral and communications operations with its broader political objectives.

The Director of Elections position is particularly significant because it concerns the party’s electoral organisation and preparation. Dr Blay’s previous experience as an executive secretary to Dr Bawumia and as head of the digital campaign team during the 2024 campaign forms part of his professional background ahead of his new assignment.
