The Office of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has dismissed as fabricated online reports alleging that the National Chairman publicly ridiculed former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, during the party’s recent National Executive elections campaign.
In a statement dated November 2, 2026, and signed by the Spokesperson for the National Chairman, Ing. Peter Antwi Boasiako, the office described the allegations as unverified and cautioned party members and the general public against circulating publications capable of undermining efforts to restore unity within the opposition party.
The statement follows an online publication dated October 31, 2026, which appeared on Opr:news and allegedly claimed that John Boadu made disparaging remarks about Boakye Agyarko during the campaign period for the NPP’s recent national executive elections.
However, the National Chairman’s office categorically rejected the remarks attributed to Boadu, insisting that he did not make the statements being circulated.
It also clarified that it had no verified evidence to establish that Boakye Agyarko authored or endorsed the statements circulating in his name, distancing the former Energy Minister from the controversy.
Although the statement identified Facebook accounts, including Umar Haris and Kofi SammyTV, as platforms that appeared to have helped circulate the allegations, it stopped short of directly accusing the account holders of originating the claims or acting with malicious intent.
According to the office, it would not speculate about the motives behind the publications or assign responsibility to individuals without conclusive evidence. It consequently urged party members and the general public to exercise restraint, verify information and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports capable of creating unnecessary tension within the NPP.
The response comes against the background of internal political contests within the NPP, which have generated competing interests, campaign activities and differences among party members seeking various leadership positions and the party’s flagbearership.
Such contests have often exposed disagreements among supporters of different aspirants, making reconciliation and the restoration of internal cohesion important considerations for the party as it prepares for its next major political battle.
Addressing concerns about the possible impact of the allegations on party unity, the National Chairman’s office maintained that John Boadu remained committed to reconciliation, mutual respect and bringing all party members together, including Boakye Agyarko, irrespective of their positions during the internal elections.
It stressed that the recent National Leadership and Flagbearership contests should not become a permanent source of hostility among members, insisting that political competition must give way to collective responsibility once the electoral processes are concluded.
The statement further called on all contestants in the recent National Leadership and Flagbearership contests, their campaign teams and associates to discourage conduct that promotes division, misrepresents political opponents or creates unnecessary hostility within the party.
Emphasising the need for unity ahead of the 2028 general elections, the office said the NPP must now move beyond its internal disagreements and concentrate on presenting Ghanaians with what it described as a credible, coherent and compelling alternative to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
It maintained that although party members might have supported different candidates during the internal elections, their differences should not overshadow their common political objectives.
“Our internal elections were contests for leadership, not grounds for lasting division,” the statement said, adding that individual ambitions must never take precedence over the collective interest and political future of the NPP.
The office therefore appealed to party faithful to disregard unverified narratives, exercise restraint in their public commentary and recommit themselves to discipline, reconciliation and the collective effort to return the party to government in 2028.
It concluded with a call for internal cohesion, declaring: “A disciplined party is a united party; a united party is a winning party.”
The statement was signed by Ing. Peter Antwi Boasiako, Spokesperson for the National Chairman of the NPP.
