Ghana Hosts Czech President Petr Pavel For A State Visit

Ghana is set to welcome Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, on a landmark three-day State Visit from April 8 to 10, 2025.

The visit is of immense diplomatic significance, marking the first time a Czech President will step on Ghanaian soil since the establishment of formal relations in 1959 between Ghana and former Czechoslovakia.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by the Office of the President.

According to the release, President John Dramani Mahama “will host the President of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Petr Pavel, next week for a three-day State Visit to Ghana.”

This visit is particularly notable as it comes on the heels of President Mahama’s return to the Presidency in January 2025, following a successful re-election bid.

“It will also be the first State Visit hosted by President Mahama since his return to the Presidency,” the statement noted.

The bilateral engagement is expected to deepen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations, which have maintained cordial relations since October 1959.

Historically, Ghana and the Czech Republic (formerly part of Czechoslovakia) have collaborated in various sectors including health, agriculture, and industrial development.

During his stay in Ghana, President Pavel will participate in a range of high-level engagements.

As outlined in the official communication, “President Petr Pavel will hold bilateral talks with President Mahama, address a business forum, inaugurate a Czech-funded health facility, and visit the Osu Castle and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.”

The highlight of the visit will be a State Dinner in honour of the Czech leader.

“President Mahama will host a State Dinner in honour of the visiting Head of State,” the statement confirmed.
