7 Arrested For Illegal Mining In Upper West

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended seven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities on the Black Volta River at Chiantanga Community near Dorimon in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The arrests were made on Thursday, April 10, 2025, by the Upper West Regional Police Command.

Seized Items

The seven suspects arrested include Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

During the operation, the police seized ten Changfang machines, two unregistered PNE and Apsonic tricycles, and motorbikes with registration numbers M-24NR 6010 and M-23-UW 4413. Additionally, two unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes and six student mattresses were retrieved from the site.

Investigation

The suspects are currently in custody, assisting with the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, they will be put before the court.

The Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities in the region.
