The National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroots members are up in arms over a reported gift of dollars from the party’s National Communications Officer and Ghana Gold Board CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, to Evangelist Nana Agradaa.
The gift has sparked outrage among party foot soldiers, who are calling for Gyamfi’s immediate dismissal.
Background
Nana Agradaa, also known as Patricia Asiedua, has a history of making derogatory remarks about President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
She once described anyone who would vote for Mahama in the 2024 general elections as “a fool.”
Despite this, Gyamfi’s gesture has left many supporters disillusioned and questioning the party’s values.
Grassroots Reaction
A grassroots organizer expressed frustration, stating, “We are here suffering. Some of our women just need a little capital to start selling food or running small businesses to feed their families. Yet this government appointee gives $10,000 to someone who once insulted Mahama and the entire party.”
The aggrieved members argue that this act violates the principles of the NDC and breaches the ethical code that President Mahama expects his appointees to uphold.
Demand for Action
The grassroots members are demanding an immediate explanation and swift action to preserve party unity and integrity.
A women’s group leader within the party stated, “The NDC has always stood for the poor and marginalized. If Sammy Gyamfi has this kind of money to give to people who insult our leader, then he does not belong in this movement.”
Calls for Mahama to publicly address the issue and sanction Gyamfi have intensified, with some threatening to stage protests if their concerns are not addressed promptly.
The grassroots members believe that Gyamfi’s actions are a betrayal of the party’s values and principles.
