Perpetual Ekua Lomokie has announced her decision to withdraw from the contest for the position of National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), bringing her campaign to an end after what she described as a period of deep reflection, prayer and extensive consultations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, Lomokie said the decision followed careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her candidature.
She acknowledged that the decision had not been easy, explaining that she entered the race with genuine conviction, a clear vision and a strong belief in the potential of women within the NPP when provided with the necessary opportunities, support and leadership.
Lomokie expressed appreciation to the women, friends, colleagues, delegates and well-wishers who supported her campaign and encouraged her throughout the process.
She also singled out members of her campaign team for their commitment, saying they had stood by her throughout the journey and had collectively achieved significant milestones despite her inability to continue the race to its conclusion.
According to her, the relationships and bonds developed during the campaign should endure beyond the contest and continue to be valuable in their future endeavours.
While announcing her withdrawal, Lomokie stressed that her decision to leave the electoral contest should not be interpreted as abandoning the issues and causes that motivated her candidature.
She said her commitment to the empowerment of women, the growth of the NPP and the advancement of Ghana remains unchanged.
“Stepping back from the contest does not mean stepping away from the cause,” she stated, maintaining that leadership sometimes requires the courage to continue pushing forward, while at other times it requires the wisdom to pause and reassess.
Her decision comes as the NPP’s internal elections process gathers momentum, with several aspirants seeking various national executive positions ahead of the party’s scheduled National Officers Elections.
Lomokie also used her withdrawal statement to appeal to all candidates remaining in the National Women’s Organiser contest to place the broader interests of the party above individual ambitions.
She said she was leaving the race with gratitude, dignity and lessons from the experience, while wishing all remaining candidates well.
She urged party members and aspirants to remember what she described as the greater purpose of achieving unity, renewal and victory for the NPP.
Her statement suggests that, although she will no longer be seeking the National Women’s Organiser position, she intends to remain involved in the party and continue contributing to causes she believes in.
