The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be observed as a statutory public holiday to commemorate Eid-Ul-Adha.
This significant celebration in the Islamic calendar marks the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to Allah’s command.
A Time for Reflection and Celebration
Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is a time for Muslims to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience, and charity.
During this holiday, Muslims in Ghana will have the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, exchange gifts, and engage in acts of charity.
Public Holiday Declaration
In a statement issued in Accra on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Muntaka urged the general public to observe the holiday.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 6th June 2025, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.
Impact on Daily Life
As a result of the public holiday declaration, schools and most businesses will be closed on June 6, allowing Muslims in Ghana to celebrate this important festival without any distractions.
This will also provide an opportunity for people to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with their loved ones.
