A tragic case of alleged revenge has gripped the Ablekuma Fan Milk community in Accra after a 30-year-old woman, Mavis Nkrumah, was arrested for allegedly pouring a liquid substance suspected to be acid on her ex-boyfriend in the early hours of May 28, 2025.
The victim, Gideon Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver, is reported to have sustained injuries after the attack, which occurred shortly after he agreed to drive his former lover home.
According to preliminary police investigations, Mavis showed up unannounced at Gideon’s residence around 1:00 a.m. and requested a ride home.
While en route, the two stopped at a location along the Ofankor 7-Days stretch due to poor road conditions that prevented Gideon’s vehicle from going further.
It was during this pause that Mavis allegedly questioned Gideon about their relationship.
After confirming for the third time that their romantic relationship was indeed over, she reportedly doused him with a substance believed to be acid.
Gideon, who was identified by bystanders following the attack, was rushed to the hospital, where he received emergency treatment for his injuries.
Fortunately, he has since been discharged and is recovering.
The suspect fled the scene and allegedly attempted to cross into a neighboring country.
However, the police apprehended her on June 3, 2025.
She is currently in police custody and assisting investigators.
In a statement released by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the police condemned the attack and used the incident to caution the public against resorting to violence in resolving personal or domestic issues.
“Acts of violence are criminal and will be dealt with by the law,” the statement said.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and urges all to report suspicious or harmful behaviour promptly to the nearest police station.”
