Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa has strongly reacted to claims that businessman Kennedy Agyapong (Kenpong) has intervened to restore peace in her troubled marriage with her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum, describing such reports as inaccurate and misleading.
Her response marks the latest twist in a fast-evolving marital controversy that has dominated public discourse in Ghana over the past weeks.
From Admired Union To Public Fallout
Afua Asantewaa and Kofi Owusu Aduonum, who got married in 2017 and share three daughters and two sons from previous relationships, were once admired as a strong couple, particularly during her rise to prominence through the Guinness World Record sing-a-thon attempt in 2023.
At the height of that moment, Aduonum publicly expressed pride in his wife, earning admiration from many Ghanaians. However, beneath the public display of unity, underlying tensions were already brewing.
According to Asantewaa’s later disclosures, the marriage had begun to deteriorate long before it became public, with emotional strain and unresolved issues gradually widening the gap between the couple.
Separation, Allegations And Family Reunion
The situation erupted into the public domain on March 31, 2026, when Asantewaa revealed during a TikTok Live session that she and her husband were separated.
The couple currently domicile in Canada with their three daughters.
She cited emotional struggles and a lack of support, particularly during times when she faced public criticism.
Her comments triggered a wave of reactions, including strong pushback from a man identified as her brother-in-law, who defended Aduonum and rejected claims that he had been financially dependent on his wife.
He insisted that Aduonum was already well-established, had travelled abroad before his wife, and had played a major role in supporting her journey.
The controversy deepened when a woman claiming to be Asantewaa’s elder sister publicly criticised her for taking private issues to social media, alleging that the family had attempted to resolve the matter privately but she refused to cooperate.
Kenpong’s Alleged Intervention
Amid the growing tension, reports emerged suggesting that Kenpong—widely regarded as a mentor and father figure to the couple—had stepped in to mediate and reconcile the two.
The reports further claimed that his intervention had yielded positive results, with suggestions that the couple were back together and working through their differences.
This narrative briefly shifted public perception, offering hope of reconciliation after days of intense online exchanges and emotional revelations.
Asantewaa’s Rebuttal
However, in a swift and firm response, Asantewaa dismissed the reports of Kenpong’s intervention, insisting that they do not reflect the reality of her situation.
Her reaction effectively contradicts earlier claims of reconciliation and reinforces her position that the marriage has ended, despite ongoing public speculation.
By rejecting the mediation narrative, she also signalled her desire to take control of her personal story, amid what she describes as widespread misinformation and misrepresentation.
Official Position: Marriage Over
Her latest stance aligns with her recent official statement confirming that she and her husband are no longer together. In that statement, she emphasised that the decision was made privately and called for respect and sensitivity from the public.
She also addressed criticisms labelling her as ungrateful, maintaining that she remains appreciative of her journey and rejecting portrayals that suggest otherwise.
Asantewaa’s rebuttal has reignited debate across social media, with opinions sharply divided. While some have backed her for setting the record straight, others question the continuous public airing of the issue.
