The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Korkor Laurette Asante has strengthened her commitment to improving healthcare delivery by sponsoring free eye surgeries for residents diagnosed with serious eye conditions during a constituency-wide screening exercise.

The life-changing intervention, undertaken in collaboration with the medical team at SDA-Valley View Hospital at Oyibi in Accra, saw beneficiaries undergo specialist surgical procedures aimed at preventing blindness and restoring their sight.

The MP’s office also provided free transportation to and from Accra, ensuring that financial and logistical challenges did not prevent eligible residents from accessing the medical care they urgently required.

The free surgeries formed Phase II of an eye health outreach programme initiated by Ms Korkor Asante’s office following an earlier free eye screening exercise that attracted several hundred residents from communities across the Atiwa West Constituency in the Eastern Region.

During the initial screening, eye specialists identified a number of patients whose conditions required surgical intervention, paving the way for the second phase of treatment.

The initiative reflects the MP’s broader vision of moving beyond diagnosis to providing comprehensive healthcare solutions that directly improve the lives of her constituents.

Speaking on the intervention, Korkor Asante reaffirmed that access to quality healthcare remains one of her foremost priorities as the representative of the people of Atiwa West.

She noted that good health is essential to individual wellbeing and community development, stressing that her office will continue to support and implement programmes that improve access to specialist healthcare, promote healthy living and enhance the quality of life of residents throughout the constituency.

Beneficiaries who underwent the successful surgeries expressed profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament, describing the initiative as a life-changing intervention that had restored their hope and protected them from the threat of preventable blindness.

Many commended the MP, Korkor Asante for her compassion and dedication to the welfare of her constituents, saying the programme demonstrated her commitment to delivering practical solutions to the healthcare challenges facing the people of Atiwa West.

The latest intervention adds to a series of community-centred initiatives undertaken by the MP since assuming office, with healthcare remaining one of the key pillars of her development agenda.

Residents have praised the partnership between the Office of the Member of Parliament and the medical team at SDA-Valley View Hospital, describing it as a model for expanding access to specialist healthcare services in underserved communities across the country.
