Popular TikTok personality, Fante Comedy, has become the centre of political debate following his release on bail and subsequent visit to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign office to express his gratitude.
Fante Comedy was recently arrested after making inflammatory comments during a TikTok live session, which drew widespread criticism.
His bail was reportedly facilitated through the intervention of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a move that has since sparked both commendation and criticism across the political divide.
Upon his release, Fante Comedy paid a visit to Dr. Bawumia to personally thank him for his role in securing his freedom.
During the brief encounter, the former Vice President advised the social media comedian to exercise restraint in his political commentaries and avoid remarks that could escalate political tensions. Sources present say Fante accepted the counsel in good faith.
The meeting, however, has drawn sharp reactions from some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who argue that Dr. Bawumia should not have entertained Fante, given the nature of his recent conduct.
They contend that the former Vice President’s gesture amounted to downplaying the seriousness of politically charged attacks on opponents.
Supporters of Dr. Bawumia, however, have dismissed such claims, stressing that his decision to welcome Fante was consistent with his long-held principle of tolerance and compassion.
They likened the act to biblical teachings of forgiveness, citing the parables of the Lost Sheep and the Prodigal Son in Luke 15.
According to them, Dr Bawumia’s response showed that individuals who err should not be cast aside but rather guided towards responsible behaviour.
