Boy, 16, Gunned Down At Galamsey Site

A devastating incident has occurred in Amasu, a farming community in Ghana’s Bono Region, where a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot at an illegal mining site.

The victim, identified as Issahaku Ansu, was engaged in small-scale illegal mining, also known as galamsey, when he was shot by an unknown assailant on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

According to the Bono Regional Police Command, Ansu was shot from a distance while working at the site, causing others to flee in panic.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found the teenager’s body lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to the back.

The body has been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police Investigation

The Bono Regional Police Command has described the shooting as a “heinous crime” and assured the public of an intensified investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
