A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has been arrested following widespread public outrage over a viral video that allegedly captured him physically assaulting a female student during a confrontation on campus.
The incident, which has sparked intense debate about student safety, discipline and the conduct of educators in schools, is currently under investigation by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and law enforcement authorities.
Confirmation of the arrest was provided by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed in a social media post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, that the teacher had been taken into custody while the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate conducts a full investigation into the matter.
“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested. Regional Education Directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to headquarters,” Fenyi stated.
The development follows the circulation of a disturbing video on social media that appeared to show a heated altercation between the teacher and a female student within the school compound.
According to accounts emerging from the school, the confrontation is believed to have stemmed from a disagreement over unpaid hostel fees allegedly owed by the student and some of her colleagues.
The teacher, who reportedly serves as a hostel caretaker in addition to his teaching responsibilities, is said to have been demanding payment of outstanding accommodation fees when the situation escalated into a physical confrontation.
In the footage that has since gone viral, voices can be heard during the argument as students react to the unfolding incident. One female student is heard expressing frustration over what she described as repeated confrontations concerning the unpaid fees.
According to the recording, the student told the teacher, “Sir, remove all the Form Three students from the room instead of fighting us every day over money.”
Moments later, the disagreement allegedly turned physical, drawing the attention of other students and individuals nearby.
Witnesses in the video can be heard pleading with the teacher to exercise restraint and remember that the individual involved was a female student.
However, despite repeated appeals from onlookers, the teacher allegedly continued the confrontation.
According to reports accompanying the viral footage, the teacher repeatedly struck the student and at one point allegedly lifted and threw her to the ground.
