The devastating loss of two lives in a building collapse following heavy rains in Cape Coast has reignited concerns over the safety of aging and structurally weak buildings across the Central Region, prompting renewed calls for stricter inspections and preventive measures to avert similar disasters.
The tragedy, which occurred in Cape Coast South after torrential rains battered parts of the metropolis, claimed the lives of 27-year-old Rukaya Issah and three-year-old Hanson Ato Mensah, leaving families, residents and community leaders in mourning.
As grief engulfed the affected families, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Central Region joined relatives, friends and community members to bid a final farewell to the two victims.
Leading the delegation was the Central Regional Director of NADMO, Kwesi Dawood Mensah, who, together with his team, attended the burial and funeral ceremonies to express solidarity with the bereaved families and offer the condolences of the entire organisation.
The team conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and offered prayers for strength, comfort and healing as they come to terms with the painful loss of their loved ones.
Speaking during the solemn occasion, officials reflected on the tragedy as a reminder of the vulnerability of communities to natural disasters, particularly during the rainy season when weakened structures become susceptible to collapse.
