Daddy Lumba’s Abusuapanin Unveils ‘TUPAC Movement’ After Funeral Turmoil

BY Grace Zigah

In the wake of the highly charged funeral of the highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, the family head and Abusuapanin has launched a new personal and social initiative, signaling a shift from months of controversy to what he describes as a campaign for truth, unity and cultural accountability.

The initiative, dubbed the “TUPAC Movement,” was officially unveiled shortly after the final funeral rites of the late musician, which themselves were preceded by intense legal battles, family divisions and national debate over burial authority.

From Family Disputes To Public Spotlight

Daddy Lumba’s death in July 2025 triggered one of the most publicised family disputes in recent Ghanaian cultural history.

Disagreements between sections of his family—particularly involving the Abusuapanin, some of Lumba’s wives and other relatives—spilled into the courts, resulting in injunctions, counter-injunctions and heated media commentary.

Throughout the court proceedings and public exchanges, the Abusuapanin emerged as a central and outspoken figure, forcefully defending his position as family head and asserting what he described as his traditional mandate under Akan custom.

His bold posture during the legal tussles drew widespread attention, especially on social media.

The Origin Of The ‘TUPAC’ Name

It was during this period of intense scrutiny that social media users began referring to the Abusuapanin as “TUPAC,” likening his defiant and fearless demeanor to that of the late American rapper Tupac Shakur, known globally for his revolutionary rhetoric, confidence and resistance to authority.

Rather than rejecting the nickname, sources close to the family say the Abusuapanin embraced it, seeing in it a symbolic representation of resilience, truth-telling and standing firm under pressure.

A Movement Takes Shape

Announcing the launch of the TUPAC Movement, the Abusuapanin explained that the initiative goes beyond a catchy name or viral moment.

According to him, TUPAC is an acronym and philosophy built around Truth, Unity, Protection, Accountability and Culture.

He said the movement is intended to promote transparency within families, protect cultural values, and give a voice to individuals who feel marginalised within traditional family systems.

“This movement is not just about a name; it’s a legacy of truth and strength,” he said at the launch. “I stood by my principles during difficult times, and now I want to use that same energy to drive positive change in our communities.”

Youth, Culture And Legacy

The Abusuapanin noted that one of the core goals of the TUPAC Movement is to inspire young people to respect culture while also standing up for fairness and accountability.

He stressed that tradition should not silence voices but rather provide a framework for unity and justice.

Observers say the timing of the launch—immediately after Daddy Lumba’s funeral—appears deliberate, marking a transition from conflict to consolidation, and from personal defence to broader social engagement.

Public Reaction And What Next

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising the Abusuapanin for turning a difficult chapter into a platform for advocacy, while others remain cautious, given the lingering tensions from the funeral disputes.

Supporters argue that the movement could help reframe his public image from a controversial figure in a family feud to a cultural advocate seeking reform and dialogue.
