Forestry Commission Chief Executive, Dr. Hugh C.A. Brown, has led Ghana’s participation at New York Climate Week, where he is engaging investors and development partners on financing opportunities for the country’s forest, land-use and climate programmes.
Dr. Brown is accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive of the Commission, Elikem Kotoko, as the two senior officials seek to attract strategic investment, technology and technical expertise to support Ghana’s climate ambitions.
Their participation is aimed at moving Ghana’s climate agenda beyond policy commitments and towards concrete investments that can deliver environmental and economic benefits.
Wooing investors for Ghana’s forests
Dr. Brown is using the international platform to highlight opportunities in large-scale reforestation, agroforestry, carbon projects and sustainable land-use initiatives.
The Forestry Commission wants such investments to generate both environmental benefits and economic opportunities, particularly for young people and communities whose livelihoods depend on Ghana’s natural resources.
The emphasis is on creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods while addressing the degradation of Ghana’s landscapes and strengthening the country’s capacity to respond to climate-related challenges.
Building international partnerships
The joint presence of Dr. Brown and Elikem Kotoko reflects a coordinated effort by the Forestry Commission to strengthen its engagement with international investors and climate-finance partners.
