In a powerful gesture of respect and cultural diplomacy, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on Monday paid a solemn visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra to honour founding father and first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The visit formed part of President Steinmeier’s official state visit to Ghana, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation between the two nations in areas of tourism, culture, and sustainable development.
Upon arrival at the Memorial Park, President Steinmeier was warmly received by the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Yussif Issaka Jajah, alongside senior officials from the Ministry and management of the Park.
The German leader laid a wreath at the tomb of Dr. Nkrumah in a symbolic act of remembrance, before signing the visitors’ book, expressing admiration for Nkrumah’s vision, leadership, and enduring contribution to African unity and global peace.

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park—one of the most significant heritage sites—serves as the final resting place of Dr. Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.
Built in 1992 and recently refurbished under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the Park stands as a testament to Ghana’s liberation struggle and the broader Pan-African movement that Dr. Nkrumah championed across the continent.
President Steinmeier’s visit marks a continuation of Germany’s commitment to fostering cultural ties and historical appreciation with Ghana.
In recent years, both nations have collaborated on initiatives promoting cultural exchange, technical cooperation, and investment in creative arts and sustainable tourism.
