Ghana’s national junior badminton team has made history after storming into the knockout stage of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) Mixed Team Relay Championships with a commanding 10–0 victory over Uganda.
The win marks one of the most emphatic performances at the global level and underscores the nation’s growing influence in youth badminton.
Dominant Start In Morocco
The young Ghanaian side, led by rising star Adu-Mintah, began the match with confidence and intensity, setting the tone early in the five-category relay format.
Adu-Mintah opened the campaign with a clinical 9–6 victory over Uganda’s Akbar Oduka in the men’s singles, displaying precision and agility throughout.
In the women’s singles, Rachael Quarcoo continued the dominance, edging out Uganda’s Vivian Nalule in a tense contest that ended 18–15.
Her win solidified the early advantage and lifted team morale, setting the stage for what would become a clean sweep across all categories.
Teamwork Shines In Doubles Contests
The energy from the singles matches carried into the men’s doubles, where Adu-Mintah teamed up with Shang to secure a hard-fought 27–23 win over Uganda’s duo Kibirige and Oduka.
The pair demonstrated excellent chemistry, recovering from early pressure to take control of the match with powerful smashes and quick net play.
Next, in the women’s doubles, Quarcoo paired with Adu-Mintah once more to produce a commanding 36–26 victory over Nalule and Ndagire.
Their teamwork and communication proved too much for the Ugandans, extending the lead to an unassailable margin.
The tie was wrapped up in the mixed doubles, where Shang and Adu cruised to a 45–36 win against Kibirige and Ndagire, completing the clean sweep.
The Ghanaians went on to dominate the remaining rounds, eventually recording an unprecedented 10–0 overall victory — a scoreline that stunned spectators and highlighted the country’s steady rise in international badminton.
