The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has completed its National Executive Election in Kumasi, producing a new crop of national officers who will take charge of the party’s organisation as it begins preparations for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary election.

The election, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, brought together delegates from across the country to elect officers who will steer the party’s affairs following its nationwide reorganisation.

The results have handed the National Chairmanship to former General Secretary John Boadu, while Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, emerged as First Vice Chairman.

The outcome also saw Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) become Second Vice Chairman and Nana Akomea take the Third Vice Chairman position. Their victories, alongside the election of other national officers, effectively establish the leadership team that will be expected to reorganise the party and position it for the next general election.

John Boadu Returns to the Top

John Boadu secured the National Chairmanship with 2,888 votes, defeating three other candidates in one of the most closely watched contests of the conference.

Former National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained 719 votes, while former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who mounted a strong campaign for the position, polled 2,408 votes. Sammy Crabbe, who had earlier withdrawn from the race and endorsed John Boadu, received 41 votes.

John Boadu’s victory marks his return to one of the NPP’s most influential leadership positions.

He previously served as the party’s General Secretary and has been a prominent figure in the party’s organisational structures for many years.

His victory comes at a critical period for the NPP, which is seeking to rebuild its structures following the 2024 general election and prepare for the 2028 contest.

Boakye Agyarko, meanwhile, had presented himself to delegates as a candidate with a detailed organisational agenda.

His campaign emphasised discipline, grassroots mobilisation, resources for constituency and polling-station executives and a comprehensive strategy aimed at returning the party to power.

Despite securing 2,408 votes, Agyarko fell short of Boadu’s total.

Paul Afoko, who previously served as National Chairman, also returned to the contest with significant experience within the party but secured 719 votes.

Kojo Bamba Emerges First Vice Chairman

The Vice Chairmanship election produced one of the shocking outcomes of the conference, with Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, polling 3,116 votes to emerge as First Vice Chairman.

Interestingly he is a first timer, whose campaign was that the delegates should vote for two gentlemen and him as a grassroots man, and magically he won as the 1st Vice, over the veterans Nana Akomea and Henry Nana Boakye.

Kojo Bamba’s result placed him ahead of former Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid, who obtained 2,956 votes.

The election also produced Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) as Second Vice Chairman after he secured 3,061 votes, while veteran broadcaster and politician Nana Akomea became Third Vice Chairman with 2,987 votes.

The other candidates in the Vice Chairmanship contest recorded comparatively lower totals. Richard Ahiagbah polled 1,001 votes, Masawudu Mohammed aka Chairman Buga 890, Yaa Amponsah Frimpong 1,503, while Richard Oti Aboagye obtained 152 votes.

Abena Pokuaah Amoah Boaitey secured 194 votes, Horma Akesie Miezah 232, Samuel Pyne 206, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah 247 and Bright Essilfie Kumi 51.

The results therefore give the new leadership a three-member elected Vice Chairmanship team headed by Kojo Bamba, followed by Nana B and Nana Akomea.

Justin Kodua Retains General Secretary Position

The General Secretary contest produced a decisive victory for incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong, who retained his position with 4,486 votes.

Kodua defeated former Deputy Minister and MP Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes. Eugene Boakye Antwi secured 162 votes, while Dr Charles Dwamena polled 129.

Kodua’s re-election gives the new National Chairman an experienced General Secretary with whom he will have to work closely in managing the party’s national administration, internal structures and preparations for 2028.

Titus Glover Wins National Organiser Race

Former Tema East MP Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover emerged as the new National Organiser after securing 2,964 votes.

Glover defeated businessman and political organiser Ali Maiga Halidu, who polled 2,231 votes.

The other candidates recorded significantly lower totals, with Kwame Amo Prempeh (Kaypee) obtaining 445 votes, Seth Agyei Yeboah (Nana Kay) 137, Emmanuel Korsi Bordja 145, Daniel Agyenim Boateng 105 and Archibald Gamor Korletey 85.

Glover’s victory places him at the centre of the NPP’s grassroots mobilisation machinery as the party looks towards the 2028 elections.

The National Organiser will be expected to work with constituency, regional and polling-station structures to strengthen the party’s presence across the country.

Hawa Koomson Wins Women’s Organiser Position

Former Minister and MP Mavis Hawa Koomson won the National Women’s Organiser position after securing 783 votes.

She defeated Hajia Safia Mohammed, who obtained 429 votes.

Hawa Koomson’s victory gives her responsibility for coordinating the party’s women’s wing and strengthening women’s participation in the NPP’s organisational and electoral activities ahead of 2028.

Her competition was tough, as the outgoing Women’s Organiser, Kate Gyamfua was against her.

Abanga Yakubu Fuseini Takes Youth Organiser Position

The National Youth Organiser election was won by Abanga Yakubu Fuseini, who polled 1,550 votes.

He defeated Clement Opoku Gyamfi, who obtained 631 votes. Michael Osei Boateng polled 78, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi 44, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah 46 and Alfred Kumi Ababio 25.

The youth organiser will have a major responsibility in mobilising young members of the party and reconnecting the NPP with younger voters as preparations for 2028 intensify.

Alfred Kojo Thompson Wins Treasurer Race

Alfred Kojo Thompson was elected National Treasurer after polling 2,243 votes.

He defeated Tahiru Issahaku Moomin, who obtained 1,605 votes, while Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah secured 1,582 votes and Hajia Ruka Saida Ahmed polled 687.

The National Treasurer will be responsible for an important part of the party’s financial administration as the new executives prepare for the demanding political and organisational activities ahead.

Ali Suraj Elected Nasara Coordinator

Alhaji Ali Suraj emerged as the winner for the Zongo group, the Nasara Coordinator position with 372 votes.

He was followed by Alhaji Salim Bamba with 311 votes and Awal Mohammed with 106 votes.

The Nasara wing is expected to play a role in maintaining and expanding the NPP’s engagement with Muslim communities and other groups represented within the party’s broader support base.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye Goes Unopposed

Dennis Miracles Aboagye becomes the National Communications Director after standing unopposed.

His uncontested election gives him the responsibility of leading the party’s national communications machinery at a time when the NPP will need a coordinated public messaging strategy ahead of the 2028 election.

A New Leadership Team for 2028

The results have now produced a new national leadership structure comprising John Boadu as National Chairman, Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary,

Alfred Kojo Thompson as National Treasurer, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover as National Organiser, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini as National Youth Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as National Women’s Organiser, Alhaji Ali Suraj as Nasara Coordinator and Dennis Miracles Aboagye as National Communications Director.
