Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Ajorlolo has disclosed that he was once subjected to a proposed two-year ban by a group of local film producers, preventing him from appearing in Ghanaian film productions.
According to the celebrated actor, the decision temporarily shut him out of opportunities within Ghana’s movie industry and made him a target in a dispute involving some producers.
Ajorlolo, however, said the restriction did not significantly disrupt his career because Nigerian filmmakers continued to seek his services during the period.
Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran actor explained that while some Ghanaian producers had decided to keep him away from local productions, filmmakers in Nigeria were actively contacting him and competing for his involvement in their movies.
“As they were banning me in Ghana here, Nigerian producers too were calling, fighting for me to come perform. So it didn’t affect me.”
The actor said the continued demand for his services across the border enabled him to remain professionally active despite the restrictions imposed on him in Ghana.
Although the producers initially intended the ban to last for two years, Ajorlolo disclosed that it was eventually withdrawn after approximately six to eight months.
He recalled that the same producers who had imposed the restriction later approached him and asked him to return to work.
“After six months or eight months or so, they themselves just pulled that thing out that I should come back.”
Reflecting on the incident, Ajorlolo suggested that he had been singled out during the dispute and used to make a broader statement within the industry.
“So they used me as a sacrificial lamb. That was the first time.”
