‘Mad’ Man Arrested Over UEW Lecturer Murder

-By Daniel Bampoe

A man believed to be mentally unstable has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of Professor Amedeka Mawuedem Koku, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The professor, who was declared missing earlier this week, was found buried in a shallow grave within the premises of his own home at Gyahadze, a suburb of Winneba.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was picked up by police after a series of investigations led authorities to the victim’s residence.

Items belonging to the late academic—including two mobile phones, a car key, and a 50-inch television—were recovered from the suspect, raising serious suspicions about his involvement in the murder.

Campus Tragedy

Professor Amedeka was reported missing by family members after days of failed communication and his unexplained absence from work.

His disappearance sent shockwaves through the UEW campus, prompting concern and calls for information.

On May 21, police investigators, acting on leads, conducted a search at the professor’s residence.

There, to the horror of all involved, they discovered his lifeless body buried in a makeshift grave behind his house.

The Police have since exhumed the body and transferred it to a medical facility for autopsy to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Suspect’s Mental State Under Scrutiny

The arrest of Joshua Karry Arthur has stirred public debate, with many questioning whether the man is mentally sound.

Described as disheveled and possibly suffering from psychological issues based on his appearance and demeanor, Arthur’s mental fitness has not yet been medically assessed, though his erratic state has been widely observed.

Despite these speculations, police are treating the case as a homicide and are focused on uncovering the full scope of the crime.

Investigators are working to determine whether the murder was premeditated, and whether the suspect acted alone or was assisted.

Community in Mourning

Professor Amedeka’s death has devastated the UEW academic community.

Tributes from colleagues, students, and friends have poured in, describing him as a dedicated educator and an intellectual pillar in the university.
