In a surprise move, President John Dramani Mahama terminated the appointment of Charles Kraikue as the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), effective immediately.
According to an official statement dated April 2, 2025, the President’s Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, directed Charles Kraikue to hand over his responsibilities to Stephen Wilfred Arthur, who will serve as Acting Director-General.
“I write to formally inform you that the President of the Republic has terminated your appointment as the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, effective immediately,” Dr. Mahama stated.
“You are directed to hand over your duties to Stephen Wilfred Arthur, who shall act as the Director-General of the Authority. The President extends his gratitude for your service to the nation.”

The reason for Kraikue’s dismissal was not stated in the official communication.
However, the decision comes amid ongoing restructuring within key government institutions.
Stephen Arthur, the newly appointed Acting Director-General, is expected to oversee operations and ensure a smooth transition at the authority.
The development has sparked interest in the aviation industry, with many waiting to see how the change in leadership will impact the sector.
Charles Kraikue’s tenure as Director-General of the GCAA was marked by efforts to improve aviation safety and security in Ghana.
However, the circumstances surrounding his dismissal remain unclear, fueling speculation about the reasons behind the President’s decision.
