A 29-year-old farmer, Moro Razak, from Awoma, a farming community in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, is battling for his life after a motorbike key lodged in his skull while attempting to separate two youth engaged in a fight.
The incident occurred at about 2100 hours on July 21, 2026, at Amenyo, another farming community in the municipality, when two young men from Bodada, another farming community in the municipality, reportedly engaged in a fight while playing tsatsa, a local game.
Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), indicates that confusion ensued during the game, leading to a physical confrontation between the two youth.
Razak, who had gone to the scene, reportedly intervened to stop the fight but was allegedly stabbed in the head with a motorbike key during the melee, leaving the key lodged in his skull.
Moro Alhassan, an uncle of the victim, disclosed this in an interview with the GNA.
He said the victim was initially rushed to the Jasikan Municipal Hospital, where medical officers attended to him, but he was later referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra because of the severity of the injury.
Alhassan said the family subsequently reported the incident to the Jasikan Municipal Police, who issued them with a medical report form to facilitate investigations.
He explained that upon arrival at the 37 Military Hospital, the family was informed that they would need GH¢33,000.00 to cover the cost of medicines and surgery.
He said the family was unable to raise the full amount but managed to mobilise GH¢7,000.00, enabling doctors to prepare the victim for surgery.
Alhassan said Razak was taken to the theatre on Saturday, July 25, for the operation to remove the lodged key and treat the injury.
Abraham Iman, the Assembly Member for the Kayadan Electoral Area, where Awoma is located, confirmed the incident to the GNA and appealed to the public to support the family financially to enable the victim to receive the necessary medical care.
He also urged residents, particularly the youth, to resolve disagreements peacefully and avoid resorting to violence.
The Jasikan Municipal Police have commenced investigations into the incident, but no arrest had been made as of the time of filing this report.
