The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has officially inaugurated the Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA), emphasizing the need for transformative reforms in the sports sector.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the board members for accepting the appointment, stating that their presence signals readiness to reposition sports administration in Ghana.
Kofi Adams highlighted that Ghana’s sports landscape has evolved beyond medals and competitions, focusing on economic value, social cohesion, job creation, athlete welfare, infrastructure sustainability, and digitized governance.
He noted that Ghana has talent, history, and passion but faces gaps, inefficiencies, and outdated structures.
The Minister emphasized the NSA’s role as the backbone of the sports ecosystem, responsible for facilities, athlete welfare, federation governance, grassroots development, and attracting private sector confidence.
He stressed that a strong NSA is crucial for the sector’s progress.
The Ministry has made strides in restoring confidence and focus, improving stakeholder engagement, decentralization, and facility management.
However, Kofi Adams emphasized the need for bold structural reforms, policy alignment, and performance-based governance.
The Minister called on the board to work with urgency, integrity, and purpose, undertaking difficult conversations and practical solutions to strengthen the NSA and the sports sector.
He also urged the board to review and update the 2016 Sports Act and develop a comprehensive national sports policy reflecting emerging industry realities.
